Teacher Training

CYF DIPLOMA
Yoga Teacher Training Course

The CYF is a small and friendly organisation and we want our students to not only achieve a qualification but also to have an enjoyable, fun and enriching experience.

The Comprehensive Yoga Fellowship offers a Yoga Teacher Training Course that has been designed to cover all aspects of Yoga in a concise and practical way, whilst still ensuring students gain a deep and thorough understanding of the subject.

There are 2 elements of the course, firstly, students are required to undertake in depth personal study and secondly attendance at Training and Workshop days is mandatory.

If you are considering applying for the Teacher Training course, you must be able to demonstrate regular attendance at a Yoga class for at least 2 years, studying with a recognised Yoga Teacher.

Personal Home Study

It is important for yoga teachers not only to have a firm understanding of their subject, but also to feel confident when passing this knowledge on to their students.

To encourage our students to delve into the subject, a number of essays must be submitted covering a variety of relevant topics.

The first manual (Part 1), is entitled ‘Philosophy of Yoga’
Part 2 covers ‘Hatha Yoga & Meditation’
Part 3 focusses on ‘Anatomy, Physiology and Teaching Procedures’.

Each manual takes around 1 year to complete and requires the submission of, on average, 10 essays per annum.

Trainees are allocated a tutor for each part of the course, who will be there to offer guidance and support as necessary.

The fees for the three parts are:-
Course Fee – Part 1 CYF Manual £100
Course Fee – Part 2 CYF Manual £150
Course Fee – Part 3 CYF Manual £70
Course Fee – Final practical assessment £50 (minimum, depending on distance travelled by assessors)

Practical Training

This element of the course runs over three years and is a rolling programme which may be joined at any point. There are three Training days and three Workshop days each year, (see Events page).

Training days cover all Posture groups, Joint freeing & warming up, Pranayama (Breathing) techniques, Relaxation, Yoga Nidra and meditation. Also included will be information on the practicalities of running a class, insurance requirements and some ideas on how to market yourself as a yoga teacher.

Workshop days aim to broaden your teaching practice, focusing on more specific areas and include Integration of less mobile students, Pranayama, Anatomy, Physiology, Bandhas, mudras, kriyas and chanting, Planning Vinyasa and Dynamic sequences, Assisting and Adjusting students and Yoga for pregnancy.

A day of First Aid training is also offered at the beginning of the second year, usually at a cost of around £65. Each Training/Workshop Day is £35, payable in advance.

Continuous Personal Development

Throughout the course trainees are expected to fully commit to their own practice by attending at least 200 hours (over the 3 years) of regular Hatha Yoga classes taught by a qualified yoga teacher.  Attendance at CYF events and any related yoga workshops may be counted towards the 200 hours, provided proof of attendance is obtained.

We have structured our course to not only provide the highest standard of teaching, but also to give the student time to savour their personal journey of self-development. Trainees are encouraged to work simultaneously on both their practical and philosophical journey.   Our aim is for our teachers to conduct their classes safely and with due care (Ahimsa) and in the true spirit of yoga (Satya).
